Millennial Snowflakes

Millennials have been described as the ‘snowflake generation’. This may be because they are seen as being sensitive, unfocused and possibly lazy with ‘devil may care’ attitudes. Pre-Millennium people who were successful had the ‘ideal professional job’, nice home & children. However, Millennials choose freedom and ‘live for today’ rather than save for the ‘rainy day’. This is due to the old way of thinking. In our parents’ and grandparents’ time, success was seen as having a good job, nice house, and married with kids. Nowadays, Millennials’ priorities are very different. To Millennials success is about freedom. Millennials have been known to spend their money on experience rather than on material things.

One view of this book supports Millennials rebelling against the norm, changing tradition, and taking every opportunity fearlessly. On the other hand, reading it the opposite way gives a conflicting message about Millennials along with Fuller’s text to let the reader decide for themselves. Using two colours and conflicting typefaces shows both perspectives of old vs new thinking.

An element of graphic design that interests me most would be in the area of typography. Over the last three years I have developed a great understanding of it and enjoy being experimental with type. This is what I want to bring into my final year project.
