A Hyper-Reality Consumed’
The art college is in itself a hyper-reality that is based on the expression of oneself in response to excessive consumption – of ideas, music, imagery, fashion, art, substance. It is a playground of FOMO, desire and creating ideologies. This counterculture and non conforming to societies expectations is often looked down on, however I draw from my experiences within this to create work.
In my work I celebrate this hyper-reality and show how important it is to the development of everyone involved as people and artists. Engaging and bouncing off one another to create moments and ideas and feelings that can only be experienced within the hyper-reality of lights, costumes and walls of party space. This space provides a hub for the creation of ideas and leads to collaboration. This education will provide the foundations of our artistic expression and experimentation.
The Fear of Missing Out is also played on within my work. My work is a response to the type of sessioning and partying that comes out of FOMO, by creating my work I hope to instill a sense of desire and FOMO within the viewer just like that of which I experience.
