White Light
Through the manipulation of light, the agent which gives us visual perception, the basis of our reality is altered. This takes us away from our preconceived ‘real’ but it is not unreal either, it is somewhere in-between. A space in which light and colour are amplified, manipulated and deconstructed, creates an experience in which the focus is directed beyond subject and object. Drawing attention to the nature of light and perception, using the tangible to give rise to the intangible, the work is physical yet, inherently transcendental. Simultaneously visible and invisible. I am interested in engaging the senses and in viewing perceptual experience, not simply as an informer of the intellect, but as a way of being in the world. By referencing particular methods and symbols traditionally used for transcendence, the work implies, that separating perception from the intellect also allows one to heighten one’s awareness of the boundaries between the real and the unreal.
