The Uncanny Exposure

The concept for my practice is exploring memory and place, linking to psychogeography and how the urban environment can cause a sense of time and place of what once was or what is. Exploring Limerick City in particular as this is where I grew up and have an emotional connection to.

My photographs capture a sense of place. These images have been taken on my daily route to college from my house. I am exposed to the surroundings, seeking and discovering new sceneries each time I take this route. Some places I never paid attention to, some that I have stumbled on by chance other areas I am most familiar with, paying attention to the smaller details and other lost places.

The use of double and triple exposures is a key element within my work. I want to portray the struggle of remembering specific memories without them being entangled with another. The clear photographs portray the vividness of some memories that I have but the double exposure photographs portray the distortion and confusion of other memories.
