My connection with the landscape stems from my mother and how my mother’s appreciation of the landscape within her art influenced mine. I base my concept around my interpretation of regeneration amongst the landscape. My mother and the landscape have strongly impacted the way I see the earth and how I portray that within my work. The landscape to me in a platform in which I can identify my mother and I to.

The concept of regeneration encouraged my work based on the landscape in association with the ‘earth mother’ archetype. The mother has been linked to the earth for generations. The earth was seen as the womb both sexual and maternal, the giver of all life.

I use the landscape in association with the mother to create my work. I use techniques such as layering of screen-prints amongst photography to create ‘portal’ like, internal spaces centring as the focal point of my pieces. I make reference to the circle which is symbolic of the womb, life, death and regeneration all of which the mother can be associated with being the giver of all things life.
