Between is a printed publication that stems from personal experiences and conversations with friends. It explores that shared feeling of living between places, far from home. Through short articles, reflections, and interviews, it captures stories of belonging and adaptation, inviting readers into a visually immersive and thoughtful experience.
The main book, centred on visual storytelling, features layered imagery, transparent pages, and fragmented narratives. As readers turn the pages, they become active participants in the story. The experience is intuitive and non-linear, encouraging interpretation and emotional engagement. Detached inserts for the essay and interviews offer depth and flexibility, letting readers navigate the content in their own way.
The interview section, presented in a dos-à-dos format, shares voices from different backgrounds, all connected by the same feeling of being in between. These stories visually and narratively echo the illustrated part of the book.
With a tone of subtle humour, empathy, and openness, the project invites personal reflection. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who shared their stories. Grazie.
The animation created for Creative Conscience 2025 is set in the ‘Ozone Research Centre,’ a distant galactic lab where a lone scientist studies Earth under a microscope. Narrated by the voice of Sir Ken Robinson and broadcast over the radio, the story guides the viewer from a sterile black-and-white lab into a colourful, microscopic world full of motion and subtle humour. Only the scientist’s gloved hands are visible, reinforcing their role as a detached observer. The contrast between the lifeless lab and the vibrant, animated cells underlines themes of transformation and disconnection.
Designed in Illustrator and animated in After Effects, the piece uses textured shapes, camera blur, and playful transitions to create an engaging rhythm. Plasticine-like textures and halftone effects suggest life and depth, while a vivid colour palette adds warmth and energy. With a minimal and humorous visual style, the animation invites viewers to reflect on climate change in an unusual and accessible way—balancing lightness with deeper meaning.
