Self Destruct

My work is based on mental health, primarily focusing on the effects of paranoia and anxiety. With the use of printmaking, photography and collage I was able to translate my emotions through art. Text is heavily present in my pieces, as I used automatic writings to convey my emotions throughout. The writings are juxtaposed onto the wallpaper. I wish for the viewer to immerse themselves into my piece and have to go up close to be able to read my writings. Although these pieces are about me and my emotions, I don’t show my own face. Using both still images and moving images, I wanted to give an eerie sense of life and movement to my work. With the use of collage, I wanted to convey a sense of deconstruction, how the brain deconstructs and overanalyses every aspect of life while experiencing paranoia and anxiety. I want the viewer to be able to create their own story, and project their own emotions onto the pieces, rather than be told how to feel.
