The Bronx Bull

The Bronx Bull project celebrates Martin Scorsese’s ‘Raging Bull’. The book acts as an explanation of plot, subplot, and imagery, as seen throughout the film, both quoting and reviewing its dialogue. Broken up into specific sections, each chapter discusses one of the seven deadly sins, as biblical imagery is common throughout the movie. The title pays homage to Jake LaMotta, the films main protagonist and anti-hero.

The chapters include Lust, Rage, Pride, and Reflection. The colours vary from chapter to chapter as do the emotions of Jake. Each colour is a reference and used to represent the chapters title.

The typographic treatment of the book was influenced by letterpress prints as they were often used when creating promotional posters for boxing events that included LaMotta. The same sans serif typeface is used throughout but treated differently using weight and stroke variations. The black and white film used during the production of the film was an aesthetical constant, as is the typography throughout the book.
