Saoirse’s work explores ideas of the home as a liminal or dream-like space, a place where the boundaries between the real and imaginary, the familiar and the strange, the safe and unsettling, are blurred. She is interested in the ways in which the home can evoke a sense of dreaminess and disorientation, inviting us to question our perceptions of the world around us.
Through her art, she seeks to capture the surreal qualities of the home as a dream-like space using mediums such as painting, colour, and installation. By manipulating and transforming everyday domestic objects and materials, she aims to create unsettling environments that prompt the viewer to question their assumptions about the home and its role in shaping their sense of self.
Her work is also inspired by the psychological and emotional dimensions of the home regarding comfort and discomfort. She is interested in exploring the ways in which the home can be both comforting and secure, as well as a source of anxiety, trauma, and isolation. By using colour and text to tap into these subconscious dimensions of the home, she creates a world that provokes reflection and introspection, inviting viewers to explore their own experiences of the liminal spaces in their lives.
