Eva’s interest lies in performance, dance and theatre and its connection to the human experience of expression. Her studio practice is concerned with the comparative exploration of the languages of performance and dance as mediated through painting and drawing. Her work explores the interrelatedness of space, sound and body.
She highlights the physicality and presence of the human body through her thick application of gesso and oil paint which she works back into with pencil, charcoal and oil pastels. Through the mixing of poses from previously choreographed photoshoots, she dances between linear figuration and abstraction in her paintings. By highlighting the dynamic relationship between the body and its surroundings she creates an experience which can be organised, delicate or chaotic – reminiscent of performance and life itself.
