FUSION

Having grown up in Nigeria, I have spent the last 10 years living in Ireland. Within that time I have noticed cultural change within our African Community. How we dress, how we eat, the kind of music we listen to – even our hairstyles have changed. We let go of some of our traditions and customs to adopt western tradition.

I have always been fascinated by the richness of African traditional clothing fabrics. We retain these fabrics to create western style garments. My work explores the merging of two cultures, through the juxtaposition of motifs inspired by the patterns,
colours and texture of traditional African clothing against everyday Western domestic ware.

Cups, jugs, bowls and plates evidence this process of contemporary social blending.
