EQUAL RIGHTS & POLITICS IN ROCK ‘N’ ROLL

My interest in music and contemporary culture inspires my art. As a feminist I am concerned about the lack of visibility of female artists in the music industry, and the lack of credit that female artists receive for their work. The notion of feminism as an anti-male construct is a concern, as feminism should promote equal rights between both genders.

My magazine ‘Feminism Start Me Up’, (which contains handmade zines) as well as my small scale paintings, translate these ideas and aim to promote an alternative way of thinking for the viewer. In performance collaboration with a band I made a speech about feminism and played electric guitar with a drumstick.
