The artist Andre Cadere in the 1970’s used his posts, as he called them ‘round bar of wood’ as a protest about Politics and Space. Spaces where art is displayed and the politics attached to these spaces. I endorse his views and regard my posts as a protest in the same vane.
‘The totem bond is stronger than the bond of blood or family in the modern sense’. (Frazer,1910). Totems are a form of categorization that most people used at some point in their pre-history that still continues in more primitive societies today.
Its primary purpose is the prevention of incest. It is forbidden to have sexual relations between members of the same totem group. My intention is to stimulate a deep memory built into our DNA, a form of recognition, which I call Folk Memory.
The posts are also designed to stimulate our sense of touch, the sense of communication. In modern culture the number one sense is that of vision, which is a sense of separation ‘look don’t touch’. One does not necessarily have to touch the posts, imagining touching is sufficient.
