Peggy
Peggy is a collection inspired by my grandmother. Peggy embodies a resilient Irish woman rooted with a strong sense of place, an empowered woman. I chose to keep Irish heritage at the heart of my fibre choice with all Irish sourced yarns from dongle and Aran yarns. Colours inspired by circuits board were muted to signify Irish scenery. This expresses the influence technology has on us as a generation. As a response to influence of technology, I as a designer place a significant importance on the textiles I create, favouring conventional methods of making. My use of traditional techniques of hand weaving and knitting expresses the importance of crafts within Irish culture. These textiles are offset by current techniques of Printed fabrics stimulated by the patterns obtained by weaving and comprised of imagery of my grandmother. My grandmother wedding coat was the primary focus of my collection which I reimagined to be rooted in the passing of time and to express the need for quality textiles to be crafted and passed down throughout generations.
