“Emotionless Void” is a collection that stems from a poem “Jane Doe” by M.Wolfe. This poem is about abuse, struggle and strength and it is for every person who has endured pain at any point in their life. The poem relates to a very important issue of emotional and psychical abuse. After breaking down the poem and categorizing sections to take inspiration from, research led me in the direction of human body anatomy, blood, hospitals, patients and mental asylums. I wanted this collection to deal with the hurt and pain but also for it to be a representation of strength and power of what people can overcome which is what these institutions were all about.
Delicate pinks and rich bodily reds throughout the collection resemble the fleshy skin tones and blood within our bodies, as is metaphorically used throughout look 1 to 6. I created each individual print digitally from concept to really connect back to the poem, each piece of fabric used in this 6-piece collection represents the power of women, anguish, emotion and the human form. The layering of tulle reflects the concealed effects that the body endures throughout the abuse. The gathering and frills represent the tensions of what was undergoing behind this poem, the push and pull. The collection brings all the underlying suffering, pain, thoughts and emotions to the surface, so that it should no longer remain hidden.
