Found objects, washed up by the sea ignite my imagination, particularly those found along the coastline of Little Island in Cork, an area I frequently visit. The sea acts like a partner in my work, washing up artefacts from the old harbour and the industrial mills area. Eroded and changed from their time in the sea, these objects at first seem peculiar, however on closer inspection we begin to recognise them and their former uses, attaching them to place and cultural history.
I create objects, in series, that communicate my curiosity. Ambiguous pieces that retain a sense of the familiar. I am not trying to replicate the items, merely expressing my response to them, and relating them to past and future functions.
