BRUT

I am inspired by Brutalist architecture, a style that embodies and incorporates:

The Urban – Minimalism – Repeat Pattern – Clean Lines – Geometric Form

I produce utilitarian tableware, designed for use in the home environment. Stackable sets that become architectural compositions in themselves, pushing the boundaries of function through the recognised Brutalist characteristic of being ‘top heavy’.

My work embodies the brutalist aesthetic, where the materials and processes are enhanced rather than hidden. Brutalist buildings are cast in-situ, with seam-lines left visible and the concrete raw. The parallels with ceramic casting processes provide the opportunity to explore this aesthetic on a domestic scale.
