“Sprouts Creche” follows the Montessori approach, prioritizing children’s interests, and independence over traditional teaching methods. It promotes learning within a nurturing environment that respects children’s innate curiosity and desire to learn. The design proposal caters for children from age 6 months to 5 years, it employs a bead maze concept to encourage exploration through planting and cooking activities. The design includes greenhouses and outdoor spaces for hands-on experiences in growing, harvesting, and a kitchen for cooking fruits and vegetables. The design envisions an inhabited roofscape which offers diverse physical activities, while ground floor play areas incorporate natural elements like grass, sand, and wood. Through vibrant colors and engaging activities, the creche aims to teach children about colors, numbers, shapes, and the value of nutritious food. Located in a former secondary school building in Ennistymon, County Clare, the creche’s aesthetic blends earthy tones and natural materials, drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscape with dominant hues of green, orange, and yellow.
