Route is a response to deforestation, which is currently the main contributor to climate change.
Deforestation is clearing the Earth’s forest at an alarming rate each year, resulting in extinctions of species, desertification and extreme temperature change to our atmosphere. Glaciers are disappearing well ahead of scientific predictions; Cities are being choked by industrial pollution; And entire coastal villages have already been swallowed by the sea. This distressing truth has been known for decades, but never properly addressed considering the urgency of the situation.
Through a combination of traditional and digital printmaking techniques Route explores the unlivable landscapes that once coated the land with forests. The work depicts ghostly representations of the masses of trees that have been clear cut and incinerated. The series follows a journey within the haunted landscape, immersed by the essence of the branches that had once dangled above the path.
