Daniel Trussell lives in Feakle, Co. Clare. Currently in his fourth year studying print and contemporary practice at Limerick School of Art and Design. Daniel uses the mono print, linocut, etching and silkscreen processes to create works inspired by nature, the elements and our relationship with them. Daniel’s work looks at traditional shamanic practices from around the globe, and the ritual objects and symbolism used by Shamans in their sacred rites. The masks that shamans employ are of specific interest to him, and so he created a mask by using objects he has found in nature to create a mask fit for a Shaman. Using bone and an antler to make a mask that conveys a sense of the shamans alleged transformation into the embodiment of the elements and nature. The symbol printed on the mask is the Sámi peoples spirit compass symbol. He has also been making mono prints of Shamans masks and hydro printing on animal skulls and carved bone.
