Hypnagogia

Katey Lanigans final year interdisciplinary practice explored the world experienced in the transition from waking to sleeping, and the way it warps when during insomnia.

The main work was an oil painting on a tin sheet, using colour to convey emotion inspired by the work of Henri de Toulouse Lautrec.

A sculptural work was also created from steel wire and rushes. It aimed to create an alien self portrait of the artist which was to represent the way in which one may feel alienated from how they see themselves with lack of sleep.

The artists further took an interest in film photography, using experimental film processes such as film soup to create visuals which represent the way that insomnia influences how we see the world.
