Throughout my final two years in college, I embarked on a profound exploration of self, unravelling the layers of my identity as an artist, educator, and individual. Delving into an investigative process intertwined with storytelling and audio ventures, I sought to understand my essence. My quest led me to unearth my place within the community, delving into the pivotal industry of Bord Na Mona in Kilcormac and its environs. Employing the tactile art of etching, I crafted a series of prints that vividly captured the bygone livelihoods of the region. This journey of self-discovery extended to familial ties, where I unearthed the poignant narrative of my mother’s childhood grief. Through the scratching qualities of dry point etching and printing on fragile fabrics, I depicted the poignancy of memory and fragile essence of childhood loss. Each exploration, whether communal or intimate, became a canvas for understanding and expression, shaping my evolving identity.
