The Frog and the Wolf

As an oblivious teenager, I was in an abusive relationship for 4 years, and ever since going through therapy long time after it ended, I wished many times that somebody would have told me that this kind of behaviour is unacceptable. I recall learning about domestic violence in elementary school, but back then it was the bare basics – physical assaults, verbal attacks, cruelty taken out on pets etc., however abuse has many forms. What happens in coercive control is that the situation escalates more and more over years, without any bruises as proof.

I wanted to bring more awareness to this topic, and so I decided to do it through art.

I asked Emiliano Pineda Alvarado whether he would like to join me on this project, since he has a good understanding of these issues, and I know he has a gentle approach.

The Frog and the Wolf is a story about an abusive relationship, but told through a more digestible lens of fairy tales. This allows for a use of metaphors and symbolism instead of triggering any traumatic experiences.
