‘Puck’ is a collection inspired by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The GAA is made up of traditional Irish sports: Gaelic Football, Hurling and Camogie. Globalisation of the GAA has extended the intimacy Ireland holds with the sports across the world as it mixes Irish tradition with other cultures. I developed patterns to incorporate curved lines and oversized pieces to follow the exuberance of the sports. The pieces have constant movement through curving lines and a fluid flow with long pleats mirroring the structure of the game. Each look is comfortable and relaxed but hold elements of sophistication throughout. The globalization and modernisation of the game has inspired me to use traditional methods like embroidery and quilting in a contemporary way within the collection. I used traditional wools and satins with modern pvc bonded fabric and hints of foil. Earthy brown and greens are enhanced by vibrant blues, greens and gold. Using Celtic symbols I have mixed cutting-edge fabrics and traditional fabrics to create unique elements and develop my own appliqué design.
