Constructed by Form

Using the assemblage of found surfaces, the combination of paint and sculpture, and the construction and transformation of forms, an idea is created. The form and colour of the found materials constructs ideas and imagery through my subconscious collection in my head and through a conscious investigation of a fitting structure/building that I find represents the surface. In most cases the surface renders the image, I allow the form and colour of the found surface to trigger an image. Subtly painting on wood, as the surface in itself contains beautiful weathered colours and depth. I just add to that lightly. Painting quite graphically and bold on the metal sheets, as they are strong, bold materials/surfaces. I draw with the surfaces, constantly shaping and changing the combination to create the form I want and then create an architectural, illustrative painting. There is an interplay between the colour of the three-dimensional objects and the paintings and surfaces on the wall. The objects were found in some of the areas I depicted. I am incorporating the structures with the paintings. Each piece has their own function but they are all connected through association of objects and surfaces making the space and the paintings one piece, creating this sort of fragmented rendition of a real time space within my studio.
