Draíocht na Foraoise
‘Draíocht na Foraoise’ which in English translates to ‘Magic of the Forest’ is a short, animation that follows a young girl, Saoirse. Through her daydream she interacts with animals that hold a Celtic symbolic meaning of traits that she will develop as the animation unfolds.
As Saoirse lays on her floor reading, she glances up to a Celtic tapestry which hangs on her wall. Saoirse drifts into a daydream where the Celtic tapestry begins to grow, transforming her room into a forest landscape.
My use of traditional animation developed from a personal fascination with Celtic Symbols and what they represent. I wanted to explore these representations in a manner that will interest the younger audience. I have created this piece using hand drawn animation, as I believe it emphasises the traditional aspect of the Celtic symbols that were also originally hand made.
