A fascination with contrast has always prevailed as a common thread through my work.
Singapore is known as the ‘Green City’, and is an illustration of how the natural and industrial environments can work in synergy with each other. My work stems from an exploration of the city itself and the city’s harmonious juxtaposition between the natural and man-made environments. This body of work is a demonstration of how the industrial landscape harnesses and controls the natural world, with the natural chaos periodically escaping. Controlled chaos is a fundamental aspect to my work. I am both physically and aesthetically illustrating the balance between these opposing, predictable and unpredictable environments, through a simple, industrial, geometric form, the cube.
Through mould-making and slip-casting techniques, my aim is to push the boundaries of the cube to reflect and explore this concept. By elevating the objects, I intend to evoke curiosity and inquisitiveness around both their external and internal space.
