LSAD 2040 is a speculation on the future of the building. The building’s history as a religious institution turned into an art college reflects a larger paradigm shift in Irish culture.
The building’s history in this case, shows us that the function of a building has more to do with the people that occupy it, rather than the building itself. The building adapts to the needs of its occupants.
This animation speculates on the culture and needs of the people that might occupy LSAD in the year 2040. We cannot say with any certainty what these peoples’ needs and lifestyles might be, that is why the animation is presented as a pastiche construction plan, for the future renovation of the building. The animation visualises some of our collective hopes and fears for the future in the form of the building’s renovation.
The goal of this animation is to encourage people to take a second look at their surroundings, and to engage with the history of the spaces they occupy.
