This piece is a metaphorical visualisation of a poem which reflects upon the natural process of growth and decay within human relationships. The initial concept was informed by an interest in the way humans form and break bonds. The film draws a parallel between this process and the organic cycle of growth and decay within nature. It expresses a mixture of my own personal experiences of gaining and losing people in my life. The poem uses water as a metaphor for the stages of a simultaneously growing and decaying relationship. The water is both a poison and a remedy, capable of both nourishing and damaging life. The character in the piece reflects upon this duality, initially fearing it but eventually learning to accept it.
The techniques used within the piece include rotoscoping, frame-by-frame animation and live action recordings. Over one thousand drawings were used to create the realistic and organic movement of the character.
