Féirín

This animation explores the method of intercountry adoption through a mythologically based narrative. The story focuses on a little girl adopted from Vietnam learning about her heritage from her mother. This is presented as an amalgamation of Irish and Vietnamese mythos and cultures. The title, Féirín, means gift which an adopted child is to their adoptive parents.

The concept behind this animation was influenced by my own experience of being adopted. I also have two sisters who are adopted from a different country. In my experience, I’ve found people have many misconceptions when it comes to adoption. One of my aims within this animation was to address these misconceptions. I also have a keen interest in mythology and mythological revival and I chose these themes as vehicles to tell my story.
