Affīnitās

My work is centred on a love of the found object and a sense of value and beauty in these discarded items.  As a child, it was beach glass – fragments of broken glass rounded and made opaque by the movement of the sea and sand that first caught my interest as I walked the beaches of New York. Through further childhood experiences, where thrift and survival instilled frugality and a repurposing mentality, I by default became a collector…or perhaps an enlightened hoarder.

I aim to connect the viewer to objects of seemingly little consequence, where the objects story and user memory ascribe new curiosity, relevance and pleasure in repurposed existence.  These basic sustainable values allow me to explore and communicate an appreciative value that can be gleaned from found ‘treasure’.

As a maker, I conceive the missing link between found and made elements, creating new relationships, new memories, new associations.
