‘Ode to my Family’ Is a project driven by my own observations of changing and adapting family dynamics around the second anniversary of losing my mother. Grief was explored in a domestic setting, holding a mirror to family life in a time of loss. Much like the role of the mother, architectural elements took on meaning, the stairs act as a central point connecting the house, the hearth represented comfort, warming the entire home.
The pieces featuring my sisters, demonstrate the quiet unfortunate strain of both adopting a role that cannot be filled and the pre-mature pressure to conform to adult life and enter womanhood after the deep loss of a mother.
My pieces in this collection feature paintings, illustrating affection and strength mustered between sisters to support each other. These paintings of solidarity, frame and bolster us, focusing on how unfolding tensions in family dynamics reshape personal identity.

Exploring the intersection of industrial buildings architecture in my hometown with familial narrative. Each shape reflects a story, merging stark architecture with portraiture creating a dialogue between past and present. I began with conversation and personal documentation, and then layered visual forms. I wanted to translate how emotion and complexities can linger across generations.
