Crea O’Donnell

Spatium

Crea O’Donnell’s innovative practice engages with space. She transforms the architectural narrative of areas in the college. She creates site specific paintings that occupy three dimensional surfaces. She deals with perception and examines the visual and psychological significance of colour.

O’Donnell creates an intense experience for the observer through the precise application of vibrant colours with paint, projection or large scaled transparent veils of synthetic colour. She has worked with architectural technicians in the Fab Lab to make laser cuts created from drawings of the architecture of the college. By investigating the college’s architecture through drawing, photography, photoshop and laser cutting, it informs the wall paintings.

Through the exploration of colour and scale she plays with the perceptions of the viewer by using  more awkward areas like corners to paint on, rather than paint on a plain flat wall. By choosing to create site specific paintings, she creates a challenging architectural situation for herself and the viewer.
