Bríd Kavanagh’s work is firmly rooted in an unyielding passion for the rural Ireland she grew up in. Growing up in Camolin, Co. Wexford, Bríd has been immersed in the stories, culture and memories of times gone by. For her, producing portraits of individuals, whose names she grew up with, is an act of veneration.

These works inextricably link a private world of the past with the desire to publically present individuals in the present, with the intention of commemoration. The source material Bríd works with are a collection of private photographs of local parishioners. Through the process of painting, Bríd transcends these individuals into public art pieces, carefully constructed to be presented to the public eye.
