As long as I remember I have been fascinated by the appearance of mould and its ability to thrive. There is so much beauty in decay. My work explores the aesthetic side of fungal growth and the symbiotic interaction between these organisms and the host. The technique I have developed takes advantage of a reaction between porcelain and an organic agent resulting in original surface textures. To me this relationship represents the lifecycle, a reminder of one’s mortality as well as a source of new scientific discoveries. I aim to capture this interconnection between fungi and humanity within scientific and domestic environments in vitrified porcelain. The hidden and fleeting set in stone.
