Paradox

My approach is focused on the movement of Moiré patterns accompanying the feeling of trauma in childhood, and the effects it has as a growing adult.

I created large illustrations that visualise movement through illusional patterns. These patterns catch your eye and create a sense of depth with a meaningful story behind them. My Moiré patterns act as a protective layer for my illustrations. This mirrors a person’s personal barrier with their mental health.

‘I was a baby sunflower.
Gasping for water to grow and shine.

Instead I was withering

barely breathing

barely there.’

These words are an extract from my poem; a script to convey my visual message. I used sunflowers as the catalyst for my illustrations. I chose to work using a dark monotone colour palette in order to portray the essence of muted tones and capture a feeling of confinement.
