‘Gridlock’ is a painterly style animation that follows the story of The Four, a group of talented inventors and how their newfound technology changed the world forever.

Zoologist, John B Calhoun’s ‘Universe 25’ experiment placed mice in a utopian society with ample food and safety. Despite this their reproductive behaviour entirely ceased, and the population collapsed toward extinction.

The Four are a caricature of contemporary politics and celebrity culture. Their godlike status provides commentary on the parasocial relationships that have developed in recent years. It proposes that generations subjected to social media and with ever more reliance on technological sophistication will herald the eventual collapse of society.

‘Gridlock’ traces the consequences of a technological renaissance which led to the end of the world as we know it. A chronicle of mankind’s downfall in a false paradise that brought forth sin, misery and our ultimate demise.

When human experience is stripped away, we are left with nothing to live for.
