This work is a meditation on two cultural systems that shape Irish Life- The Catholic Church and the GAA. How these institutions function as both unifying forces, and mechanisms of control. Titled The Foundations of a Rural Experience, I seek to interrogate the ways in which these two pillars underpin community identity, social interaction, and individual practice within Ireland, whilst also reflecting on their roles as systems that impose boundaries and expectations.
Through this work, I hope to foster dialogue about identity, authority, and the complex interplay between tradition and change. This work is a self-portrait in which I hope to gain some catharsis, as I too become the viewer.
