Lost Signal
“We live in a world where there is more and more information, and less and less meaning.” ― Jean Baudrillard
‘Lost Signal’ takes inspiration from French sociologist Jean Baudrillard’s theories that media saturated societies, eventually displace reality with simulation. More and more digital spaces now shape identity and our shared experiences, and the wall between reality and artificial is fractured.
The story follows Tyler who is a phone obsessed young man lured into Digitopia, a world that is powered by an artificial mind, the Digicube. Sustained by raw human creativity this malevolent force devours the identity of those who roam its endless corridors, losing their personality and connection with the real world.
Without monsters or villains, the true threat exists within the system itself; an environment designed to entice its users to return without question as to the hidden cost. With its atmosphere of subtle dread, ‘Lost Signal’ reflects on the relationship between humans and technology, creativity, and identity, and the world of the future.
