I am a visual artist based in Clare working primarily with wood carved sculptural objects. My wood carvings are autobiographical narratives, sculpted reflections of my experiences navigating the intertwined realms of motherhood and mental health. Drawing from memories of my own upbringing and the societal shifts shaping contemporary parenthood, my work explores the delicate balance between tradition and modernity. Utilizing locally sourced wood, often reclaimed from felled trees due to rot or overgrowth, I employ both traditional and contemporary carving techniques to craft sculptures that bridge the past and present. Infused with humour, my sculptures invite viewers to journey with me, using laughter as a lens to contemplate the evolution of familial dynamics and the preservation of moral values in an ever– changing world.
