Greenhouse Studio

Sarah’s practice is rooted in the ritual of daily walks and slow looking, desiring to explore the endless threads of connections between ecology and visual art. She is interested in collaborating directly with the natural world. Currently she is interested in facilitating creative exchanges between Plants and Fungi while exploring ideas of distributed authorship. Greenhouse Studio is a grow-house of collaborative experiments. Within a greenhouse which is handcrafted using timber and repurposed windows, a collection of living sculptural work grows from seed to shoot; from spawn to mushroom. Greenhouse Studio uses substrates such as cardboard, sawdust and wool as catalysts for new growth. Weaving connections – literal and poetic – between these materials, allows artist to become mediator, and material to become collaborator, underpinning the rhizomatic nature of creation.

This installation is influenced by research in biomimicry, synthetic biology, and discourses surrounding conservation and curated wildness.
