This project explores the presence and absence of my family dog and the quiet impact he had on our lives.  Through a series of photographs and objects, I reflect on how his spirit once filled our home and how his absence now shapes it .
The work moves between past and present images of my family with him by our side and after he is gone.   Familiar spaces feel different without his small powerful energy.  Alongside these photographs are his old toys – chewed, frayed and full of history.  These bite marked relics serve as a tender reminders of his place in our everyday life.
There’s a whimsical side to his story too.  My dog was a character – playful, endlessly loving and I’ve allowed those memories to shine through in subtle imaginative ways. Through the lens, I aim to capture not just grief, but the deep joy and humour he brought us.
“Traces of you” is a personal archive of love, loss and the enduring bond between humans and animals. It’s about how something so small can leave behind something so big.
