“Through colour, I experience a feeling of complete identification of space. I am truly free”. (Yves Klein)
Through a combination of printmaking, installation and photography I explore the transformative effect that colour has and the impact that it can have on us. I investigate whether or not it is the space that plays with our feelings or comfort and contentment or a combination of the colours within that space. Our senses react to stimuli which come from outside the mind, the stimuli that I am referring to in my work is colour. Through my work I want to determine if we essentially have a relationship with certain colours or do we just connect with colours that we are lead to believe as being calm and comforting? For example can people find the colour red which has always been associated with danger and warning signs reassuring and soothing? Or have we in actual fact already made assumptions of specific colours? By juxtaposing the landscape using different coloured plastic sheets I can determine wether our colour perception has been influenced by culture, what do feel when a calming seascape is juxaposed with the colour red? Does our perception of the space change?
