The myth you know, through the eyes you never saw.
‘Beneath the Grandeur’ follows the Greek myth ‘Theseus and the Minotaur’ from the perspective of the princess, Ariadne. Her unique perspective exposes the male dominated tropes in the original story. This shifting dynamic proposes Ariadne to be the true heroine, and the catalyst to Theseus celebrated victory over the beast.
This trailer provides glimpses of the story and allows the audience to piece together their own interpretation of the myth. A montage of tense and emotional moments portrays a sense of struggle between right and wrong. The viewer is placed in a state of uncertainty that mirrors Ariadne’s own internal struggle.
Stylised 2D animation, patchwork storytelling and a refocused protagonist invites the viewer into a world where myth and emotion intertwine, challenging the traditional concept of the hero. The visuals reflect the suspense and emotional of the myth, while also evoking the heat and ambiance of ancient Greece through a style inspired by Greek pottery.
This reinterpretation allows for greater exploration of popular fables and unknown perspectives of the overlooked voices in myth.
