Stages of Lesbian Grief

This project is about lesbian experience and LGBTQ culture and community. As a non-binary lesbian my experience in life has been about finding and creating space for myself and others like me. Grief plays a huge role in my work as creating serves as a cycle of grieving, this project was born out of grieving lack of spaces, lost relationships, death and loss/rebirth of self. Stages of Lesbian Grief is a deliberately exaggerated title of these complex feelings. I am tired of the lack of visual culture that doesn’t include my experiences or wants in life, so I’ve aimed to create it using bold bright colours, visual essays, photos and paintings. I sought to represent a type of female masculinity in my work as well as feminine rage and to see where they connect. To represent the ebbing, flowing and frenzy of grief and joy in the butch dyke experience is my main aim with these works.
