‘Welkin’ offers an insight into the life of a young soul who sits alone in the consuming void. Just as she is about to fade away amongst the shadows, a glimmer of hope appears. A guiding star, the Eternal Guide, appears to help. Her job is to bring the soul home and keep her safe from the engrossing void that can destroy her. They journey across the stars seeing its beauty and life, and allow the soul to flourish. Welkin follows a theme of hope, guidance and journey. Loneliness can be often felt in a vast space, but there’s always a sign of hope – a light that can guide one’s way out from the darkness, a voice of reason or simply, a friend. Inspired by themes of spirituality, the light, the darkness and space, Welkin combines these themes to create a short story that provides an insight into the vast cosmos and seeing it’s beauty and its terrors.
