Antiquity

It seems that forming shapes out of natural material has always been with us, artefacts have been found in all of the early cradles of civilization- this is the history of us all.

In this body of work, Marie explores the relationship between ancient art, monolithic sculptures, historical iconography and motifs and contemporary abstract portraiture and figurative art.  By creating a series of clay head sculptures and using these as reference for her paintings and drawings. She uses a combination of natural colour pallet of the original sculptures with vibrant undertones.

For this project Marie has used a combination of clay sculptures, drawing and oil painting’s. As an artist she enjoys creating series of work’s, experimenting with different mediums and exploring her chosen subject matter from different perspectives by working in 3D and 2D to get a greater understanding of her subject matter.
