Eunoia Chrono

Eunoia Chrono is a combination of two words from ancient Greek; Eunoia meaning beautiful thinking, and Chrono the word for time.

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”— Elliott Erwitt

In this work, Dermot explores his own thoughts and experiences through his photography. The work often seems not to belong to a time. He goes out and shoots to create an ambience of isolation, often making the work feel somewhat post-apocalyptic. The photos tell the narrative of a forgotten world and the mundane in everyday life. His work is highly contrasting due to his interest in black and white photography and looking at light and dark. This exploration helps him engage more deeply with where he is in space and time. He draws inspiration from music, literature and artists such as Wolfgang Tillman, L.s Lowry and Eugene Atget.

“If a day goes by without my doing something related to photography, it’s as though I’ve neglected something essential to my existence, as though I had forgotten to wake up.” — Richard Avedon
