In my artistic journey, I have delved into my body’s unique imperfections, fostering newfound confidence and acceptance amid long-standing struggles. I feel this is a universal battle that resonates with many and although there are more open dialogues around this issue, I feel that as a society we should be much more forgiving than we have allowed ourselves to be in the past. Through self-portraiture, I aim to spotlight what society deems flawed and seek to immortalize society’s notions of imperfection—be it asymmetry or scars—as emblematic of individuality and beauty. This process has liberated me and, hopefully, prompts viewers to reassess conventional beauty standards, recognizing beauty in the imperfections many struggle with. My art serves as a personal call to action and has prompted me to redefine my own inner dialogue about my body image and spark conversations about beauty perception and hopefully begin a journey of healing the scars that are invisible. What began as an introspection evolved into a visual testament of selfacceptance and discovery.
