The Echoes of the Landscape Reveal an Ancient Colour
My aim for this project is to refamiliarize myself with my Irish lineage and identity by utilizing my creative practice in translating my relationship with the country’s landscape, its stories and mysticism.
My firsthand experiences of being present in Ireland’s natural and physical landscape play a significant role in the factors of creative research and artistic subject matter in this project. Furthermore, my creative practice has encouraged me to look more insightfully into the landscape that lies in front of me and unearth themes of mysticism within the world that lies beyond our own and the elements that cannot be seen with the naked eye. I hope that unearthing the secrets of the landscape and the nature that surrounds me through my visual art, will aid me in becoming more culturally and spiritually affiliated with Ireland’s routes. Being present in Ireland’s natural beauty ignites feelings of appreciation and curiosity and through my work, these feelings will best be expressed.
In Conclusion, I hope to explore the visualization of my chosen theme by effectively utilizing the various mediums I have access to in Printmaking including screen-printing and etching. In addition to these mediums, I will also be using my strengths in painting, photography and sculpture to enrich my studio practice which I hope will elevate the engagement and emotional depth of my work with anybody who sees it. Moreover, I wish for my project to speak to those who may feel distant from their own cultural background as I believe it is essential to keep the spark of our ancient and mythological routes alive and preserved through story and art.
